Westports 1Q net profit jumps 47% on stronger container revenue

WESTPORTS Holdings Bhd posted a 46.8% rise in net profit for the first quarter ended March 31, 2026 (1QFY2026), driven by stronger container-related revenue.

Net profit climbed to RM326.5 million from RM222.46 million a year earlier, while revenue rose 44.2% to RM896.28 million from RM621.29 million, according to a Bursa Malaysia filing today.

The group’s operational revenue increased 27% year-on-year to RM753 million, mainly supported by higher container revenue. No dividend was declared for the quarter.

Westports warned that the ongoing Middle East crisis has disrupted global energy supply and pushed fuel prices higher, with fuel costs expected to rise materially if elevated spot prices persist.

The group said sustained high energy prices could fuel global inflationary pressures, weaken consumer purchasing power and strain government finances, potentially tipping economies into recession.

It also noted that container shipping lines are changing port calls and diverting cargo to avoid sailing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Despite the uncertainty, Westports said it is maintaining its guidance for single-digit positive container throughput growth for now, but may revise its outlook if conditions worsen or volumes decline significantly.
